Guidelines

|
Non AKC (American Kennel Club) registered
puppies. |
These animals make terrific pets, Livestock
Guardian Dogs, and farm companions. They are bred from proven working
dogs. Both parents are purebred Great Pyrenees. |
These pups are purebred Great Pyrenees, but
are not AKC registered. One parent might be AKC registered, but not
both, as required for AKC registration. |
| AKC puppies
(limited registration).
Unless otherwise stated on our website,
all of our dogs are eligible for unlimited registration (described
below).
|
All of the
above, plus they are eligible for AKC registration papers to prove their
lineage and proper bloodlines because both parents are AKC registered.
Their lineage/pedigree (family tree) is recorded through the generations.
They are bred from top quality stock and
striving to meet GPCA breed standards.
Investigative and exploratory medical
testing for genetic problems like hip dysplasia and eye disease is more
common among this group in order to prevent unknowingly passing on these
undesirable traits to offspring.
|
Limited AKC
registration means that the animal is restricted from competing in most AKC
sponsored events and that offspring from the animal may not be registered.
There are two common reasons for limiting a dogs registration...
Breeders sometimes limit a dogs registration this way in order to prevent an
animal with flaws from continuing to breed AKC registered offspring.
These flaws might not even be noticeable to the average person, but a judge
in a show ring would notice it.
Breeders sometimes also limit a dogs registration in order to prevent new
owners from breeding registered pups (i.e. stifle competition), and/or in
order to obtain a premium price for breedable stock. |
| AKC puppies (unlimited
registration).
|
All of the above
plus these animals have the right to compete in AKC sponsored events (i.e.
conformation, agility, obedience, draft dog, Canine Good Citizen) and win
titles.
These animals may also be used as breeding
stock for future AKC registered litters. The overall appearance of
these animals will be top quality to the trained eye.
Many breeders will require a spay/neuter
contract, or a percentage of show winnings, or a free pick of any future
litters for their animals (however, we do not). |
This is the
typical AKC registered dog that you've heard about.
Unlimited AKC registration means that the
animal may compete in AKC sponsored events and that offspring from the
animal may be registered as well.
These are the top quality Great Pyrenees chosen to carry on the breed.
